When the Career Services department at Hillsdale College asked me to redesign their collection of handouts, they were a mess. Each subject had a whole packet of single-sided, black-and-white, letter-sized flyers, and it was difficult to keep track of them, especially if you took more than one packet. I rearranged the information to give each one a smooth, logical flow, working with my contact in Career Services to cut out extraneous information and improve the experience of the students who needed the information.
This was an exercise in User Experience design. I wanted to make it easy—even delightful—for college students to find exactly the information they needed without having to apply their taxed and tired intellects to yet another test of comprehension and endurance.
